Eco-responsible camping: what we do

Accueil » Welcome to our campsite » An eco-responsible campsite

For many years, Camping La Grande Veyière has been committed to an eco-responsible policy. We have put measures in place to save water and energy, we are actively sorting waste and we are striving to preserve biodiversity.

To preserve this natural environment that is so dear to us, it is important to actively implement a series of actions. These are measures that we undertake throughout the year as well as specific ones taken during the opening period of the campsite.

The resources

Water

  • The sanitary facilities and public water points are equipped with water-saving systems.
  • Our hedges, trees and beds are watered with rainwater or untreated agricultural water.
  • The cleaning products we use are not harmful to the environment. We ban bleach and we ask our customers to do the same.

Energy

  • All rental, sanitary and public lighting are equipped with low consumption bulbs or LEDs or equipped with solar lighting systems.
  • New electrical equipment is classified in economic category A or higher.

Various

  • We only print if necessary and preferably on both sides.
  • Our campsite no longer offers a paper brochure and exchanges by e-mail are favoured.
  • In the grocery store and at the bar, we offer an assortment of organic, ecological or regional products.
  • A poster campaign has been set up to enhance our clients’ awareness of the pursuit of waste.

Waste

When our campsite is full, we have the equivalent of the waste of 60 families that needs to be dispensed with. It is therefore very important to try to limit waste production as much as possible and organise sorting, maximising effective recycling.

How we limit waste production

  • For our takeaway snacks, we do not use disposable packaging.
  • At the grocery store, our customers bring a reusable bag to carry their purchases.

Sorting the waste

  • Glass, plastic, metal, paper, cardboard and cartons are collected in rubbish bins or special containers.
  • Garbage bags for sorting recyclables are freely available.
  • Compostable organic waste finds itself in our composters.
  • Used batteries, lamps and other hazardous waste is taken by us to the dump for proper treatment.
  • Used oils (eg frying oil) are collected for specialised recycling.
  • The hard bread serves as food for our horse during the winter.
  • We harvest plastic and cork stoppers for the benefit of a particular charity.

Biodiversity

  • We do not use chemical fertilizers but natural fertilizers such as our compost.
  • Walkways, sports fields and terraces are maintained with a thermal weeder or biological products. For our flower beds, we use only manual techniques.
  • A landscape plan is set up in accordance with the natural area. We have created or maintained various environments favourable to wild fauna and flora: country hedges, ponds, dry stone walls, etc.
  • We leave in place a certain amount of dead wood on the ground and standing dead trees. This is an important contribution to biodiversity.
  • With our new plantings, we opt for local species, more resistant to climatic conditions and adapted to the local fauna.
  • Out of season, the entire land is a haven of peace where birds and mammals can find refuge. During the tourist season, some parts of the terrain remain inaccessible to the public.
  • In winter, our pool, shaped like a lagoon without a steep slope, is not emptied and is not treated with chemicals. This allows wild animals to bathe, drink or breed. Every spring, it is full of life and we transport small salamanders, little newts and tadpoles to surrounding ponds before putting the pool back into service.
  • The campsite is classified refuge LPO (League for the Protection of the Birds).
  • We either promote or personally organise walks, explorations and nature- and heritage tours.
